- Application Window: 8/27 – 9/6
- Registration Period: 9/10 – 9/19
- Testing Dates: 11/2 – 11/12
1. The Application Period
The first step toward taking the CAC or CPC exam is to apply for the exam you are qualified to take.
– The CAC exam is set aside for professionals with 4 years or less of industry experience, professionals who have gained experience working in the field, and Construction Management (CM) students who expect to graduate from an accredited Construction Management Program at a college or university.
– The CPC exam is designated for experienced construction professionals who have gained at least eight years of qualified experience through education and real-world project management.
– The Application Period for all professionals is August 27 through September 6, 2025. Please note: the application period does not pertain to students who are in schools that administer the exam on their own. In these situations, students will receive application instructions directly from the educational institution. However, students who take the exam on their own will need to complete the application.
– For construction professionals: Visit the CAC or CPC certification website pages to apply for the appropriate exam. The applications will go live on Aug. 27th.
2. The Registration Period
Construction professionals who apply online will receive confirmation from AIC regarding their eligibility to take one of our exams. Once approved, you will have a period of time to register for either the CAC or CPC exam.
- Registration Period: Sept. 10-19, 2025.
3. The Exam Dates
Construction professionals who are approved to sit for their assigned exam and register in advance can complete the CAC or CPC exam at a designated university via remote proctoring.
- Exam Window: The computer-based exam window is November 2-12, 2025.
- Examinees will receive information from our assessment provider, PointLeader. If you do not receive this information, please contact [email protected].
Note for students: Most institutions will make the CAC exam available to you on an assigned date, and the exam will be administered through your school. In other situations, some schools have the flexibility to provide you with the exam during our designated testing window. Regardless, your instructor will provide specific information about where, when, and how to take the exam.
Who Can Sit For Each AIC Exam?
We strive to offer aspiring CAC and CPC exam candidates a clear, detailed understanding of the eligibility requirements. Here’s a closer look at the key criteria you need to know.
CAC Certification Requirements
– For professionals: The CAC Level I exam is designed for construction professionals with a strong foundation in construction skills, knowledge, and expertise. To be eligible for the CAC exam, applicants must meet the following requirements at the time of their application:
- 4 years of Qualifying Experience, Qualifying Education, or a combination of the two factors.
– For students: As mentioned before, this exam is also designed for students who will soon graduate from a CM degree program at an accredited college or university. Students who qualify for the exam must satisfy this criterion:
- Be within 12 months of graduating from a 4-year accredited bachelor’s degree construction program.
Please note that students may sit for the exam in the immediate period of time before graduating from the degree program.
For example, if you plan to graduate in December 2025, you can sit for the exam in November 2025. However, if you plan to graduate in Spring 2026, we recommend waiting to apply for the CAC certification during the Spring 2026 exam window.
Additionally, you will not become certified and receive the designation of a Certified Associate Constructor (CAC) until you receive your college degree, provide us with proof that you have received your degree, and sign the AIC Code of Conduct agreement.
CPC Certification Requirements
The CPC exam is designed for seasoned construction professionals with advanced skills and extensive experience in managing complex projects. As the highest-level professional certification in the field, it stands as the premier measure of a constructor’s qualifications.
Designed for construction managers capable of overseeing entire projects or substantial portions, the exam sets a rigorous standard. Its questions demand a more comprehensive knowledge base and deeper expertise compared to the CAC Level I exam, reflecting the complexity and responsibility required at this level of management.
To apply, register, and sit for the CPC exam, you must meet the following requirements:
- Have passed the CAC Level I exam (or be exempt from taking the CAC exam).
- Be a CAC in good standing with our organization.
- Have 8 total years of acceptable Qualifying Education, Qualifying Experience, or a combination of the two.
- For Qualifying Experience: at least 2 years must include experience managing a construction project or a substantial portion of a project.
