Fall 2024 AIC Constructor Certification Exam Information

Take note of the following important dates during the fall exam period.

1. The Application Period

The first step toward taking the CAC or CPC exam is to apply for the exam you are qualified to take.

– The CAC exam is designated for young professionals (4 years or less of industry experience) and expected graduates of an accredited Construction Management Program at a college or university.

– The CPC exam is designated for seasoned construction professionals who have accumulated at least eight years of qualified experience through education and real-world project management.

– The Application Period for all professionals is September 2-15, 2024. Please note: the application period does not pertain to students. Students will receive application instructions directly from the educational institution.

For construction professionals: visit the CAC or CPC certification website pages to apply for the appropriate exam. The applications will go live on September 2.

2. The Registration Period

For construction professionals who apply online, you will receive confirmation from AIC of whether you have been approved to sit for the exam you are qualified to take. You will then have time to register for the CAC or CPC exam.

  • Registration Period: September 20-October 1, 2024

3. The Exam Dates

Construction professionals who are approved to sit for the exam and register in advance will be able to complete the CAC or CPC exam at an approved computer-based testing location.

  • Exam Window: The computer-based exam window is November 1-10, 2024.
  • We will send you specific information about where to take the computer-based exam. If you do not receive this information, contact [email protected].

Note for students: Your college or university will make the CAC exam available to you at an assigned date, and the exam will be administered through your school. The instructor will provide specific information about where, when, and how to take the exam.

Who Can Sit For Each AIC Exam?

We want to ensure everyone interested in the CAC or CPC exam has a thorough understanding of the eligibility requirements. Let’s review the standard requirements in greater detail.

CAC Certification Requirements

For professionals: the CAC Level I exam is available to established construction professionals who have a solid foundation of construction skills, knowledge, and understanding. To qualify to take the CAC exam, you must meet the following requirements by the time of your application:

  • 4 years of Qualifying Experience, Qualifying Education, or a combination of the two factors.

For students: as mentioned before, this exam is also designed for students who will soon graduate from a Construction Management degree program at an accredited college or university. Students who qualify for the exam must satisfy this criterion:

  • Be within 12 months of graduating from a 4-year accredited bachelor’s degree construction program.

Please note that students may sit for the exam before graduating from the degree program. For example, if you plan to graduate in December 2024, you can sit for the exam in November 2024.

However, you will not become certified and receive the designation of a Certified Associate Constructor (CAC) until you receive your college degree.

CPC Certification Requirements

The CPC exam is set aside for experienced construction professionals who are highly skilled and experienced in managing complex construction projects.

Our highest level of examination is considered the leading test of a constructor’s qualifications in the industry. It is designed for construction managers who are capable of managing the execution of all or a substantial portion of construction works.

The exam questions require greater knowledge and a deeper understanding than what is required in the CAC Level I exam.

To apply, register, and sit for the CPC exam, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Have passed the CAC Level I exam (or be exempt from taking the CAC exam).
  • Be a CAC in good standing with our organization.
  • Have 8 total years of acceptable Qualifying Education, Qualifying Experience, or a combination of the two.
    • For Qualifying Experience: at least 2 years must include experience managing a construction project or a substantial portion of a project.
