David Fleming

David Fleming

Dates of Life: September 17, 1953 – February 29, 2024

AIC Involvement: David Fleming was an esteemed associate professor at Texas A&M and an accomplished construction professional. David dedicated his career to mentoring students and advancing construction standards. He made significant contributions to the academic and professional realms, including serving as president of AIC and establishing an endowed scholarship in construction science. David’s impactful career bridged practical industry insights with academic mentorship, leaving a lasting legacy in construction education and ethics.

Bruce Scott

Bruce Scott

Dates of Life: April 23, 1935 – January 16, 2023

AIC Involvement: Bruce Scott was involved in the construction industry for more than 60 years, starting with obtaining a degree in Building Construction in 1959. Bruce practiced mentoring in his role as CEO of Scott-Long Construction, Inc., both to employees and to individuals in area businesses. He played a large role in the growth of our organization by founding the Northern Virginia chapter of AIC.

Dr Dennis Bausman

Dr. Dennis Bausman

Dates of Life: June 8, 1949 – November 29, 2022

AIC Involvement: Dr. Dennis Bausman taught Construction Science & Management at Clemson University for 24 years after a 28-year career as an executive with two major construction companies. Dr. Bausman was involved with AIC for over three decades and was instrumental in the success of the Constructor Certification Commission. Dennis served on the Commission’s Board of Advisors and also served on the AIC Board of Directors.

Dr David Lynn Batie

Dr. David Lynn Batie

Dates of Life: July 10, 1953 – June 17, 2022

AIC Involvement: Dr. David Lynn Batie was a long-term Construction Management professor at East Carolina University. His dedication to the department helped it become one of the most respected departments at ECU. He was an active member of AIC and supporter of the AIC Constructor Certification Commission. He was served two terms on the Advisory Board of the Commission.

Richard Pepper

Richard S. Pepper

Dates of Life: June 23, 1930 – January 28, 2021

AIC Involvement: As the leader of one of the nation’s largest construction firms (Pepper Construction), Richard Pepper was involved in building strong community partnerships within our industry. Richard was part of the group who founded AIC with a belief that construction deserved an organization to advance the industry’s professionalism and ethics. In 1993, he was honored with the Walter A. Nashert Sr. Constructor Award.
